Affordable Luxury with Tiffany Pratt

Luxury is different for all of us and style means different things to everyone. Curating a stylish space with all new or on-trend pieces can be expensive – but it doesn’t have to be.

The one and only Tiffany Pratt returns to the Calgary Home + Garden Show with a much-needed burst of colour and energy to combat this seemingly never ending Calgary winter. She’ll be shedding some light on her design process, sharing her colourful philosophy and some personal stories that will have you making plans to live your best, most colourful life –TODAY!

Prior to her appearance at the Calgary Home + Garden Show, this vibrant, colourful and inspiring interior designer, maker, HGTV Canada star and author of DIY guide This Can Be Beautiful is sharing a touch of her home design magic with us.

Read on for Tiffany Pratt’s honed perspective on how to achieve a designer look for less, all while staying true to your design style.

Drawing inspiration from my home renovation last year, I want to share my top three tips for changing your space without emptying your pockets. Last year I finally made some changes to my space to evolve it from just a home to my sanctuary. I wanted the space to be functional but still represent ME.  I added little details and highlighted things that I never thought I would over the years and now I have a space that I truly love. The Glitter Suite is my ashram. Here are my tips to help you create a space that makes you feel the same way:

Old Walls? New Paint!

Achieving a new look for old walls is as simple as a fresh coat of paint. A new paint job can come in at a variety of price points, but if you’re looking for a look that lasts, try a good quality wall paint. Spending an extra $20 or $30 a gallon can make a world of difference. For damaged or uneven walls that paint can’t fix, try a thick paintable wallpaper like Anaglypta! I used it in my old 1920’s beach apartment when I renovated last year and it made SUCH a difference!

Upgrade with Art

Art is an investment, plain and simple. However, nothing elevates a space like a beautiful painting by an artist you love. It doesn’t need to be expensive to look great. My tips for choosing art for your space? Choose something that you love and that speaks to your style. It’ll come across more authentic and more you. I find local artists are often a great source for authentic, beautiful art!

Invest in the Focal Point
I won’t be the first designer to tell you that a focal point can make or break a room. If you’re looking for places to splurge in your space, your best bet is to invest your money on a ‘focal point.’ Focal points command attention and are the high points of most spaces. In my place, I have focal points in all rooms. One of my favourites focal points is this huge vintage Moroccan mirror. Eye catching AND functional! You can also use rugs, lighting or art as a focal point in your space.

Want to learn more about my design process? Come see me at the Calgary Home + Garden Show, March 1 – 4! I’ll be presenting on Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3 at 4 pm, and again on Sunday, March 4 at 1 pm at the BMO Centre & Corral at Stampede Park. Come say hi!

I’ve got a special promo code you can use to save $5 on your tickets. Enter TIFFANY as your promo code when you buy online.

Can’t wait to meet you at the show!
